2008 Garagiste Pinot Noir
The Garagiste label is reserved for exceptional parcels of fruit. This year's Garagiste Pinot Noir is a single parcel of MV6 fruit from our Merricks Grove block. The lower slopes of this particular North-facing slope, each year, produce extra dimensions of intensity and complexity.
The fruit was carefully sorted, destemmed and wild yeast fermented in a small open fermenter for 20 days. The wine was then matured for a further 10 months in Francois Freres Troncais hogsheads with 33% being new. It was bottled in January and matured for a further 8 months in bottle prior to release.
It shows the youthfulness, vitality and reserve that we look for in our young Pinots with primary aromas of cherry and plum with some spicy and savoury complexity. The balance of refreshing acidity and fine tannins gives this wine a seamless ‘line’ through the palate and very good length.
