2008 Garagiste Chardonnay

This year's Chardonnay is 100% P58 clone from our Merricks Grove Vineyard. P58 is the Chardonnay equivalent to Pinot Noirs MV6 and is particularly successful when picked early where it expresses more minerality. The wine was fermented in Barriques and Puncheons, with 38% being new Francois Freres Troncais, using indigenous yeasts. This year we felt that the acid was a little high and allowed MLF to proceed until we were happy with the palate structure. Matured for 11 months in barrel, the wine was bottled in February and aged for a further 11 months prior to release. The wine is pure and lean with citrus aromas and some matchstick complexity. Long and focussed on the palate, with refreshing natural acidity. 200 cases produced.
