2009 Sauvignon
Our Merricks Grove Vineyard has a small South facing block of Sauvignon and we have always been impressed with the quality of the fruit. Sauvignon Blanc is a very popular variety yet so little of it is very good. It tends to be either tropical and boring or herbal and under-ripe. We have made a wine that walks a line between these two extremes, and the result being balanced and interesting. Whole bunch pressed and fermented in French oak, with a small percentage being new, using indigenous yeasts. The wine was sulphured early to inhibit MLF, matured for a further 6 months, then bottled un-fined. Smoky and flinty with primary aromas of peach, gooseberry and a hint of passionfruit, the palate shows some richness yet finishes with clean refreshing acidity.
